Welcome back to Nashville JEFF The Brotherhood, here for some recording, video shooting, and performances before they gear up for their CMJ shows and Shonen Knife tour. More on that later. But right now let's give a shout out to both The Mattoid and Daniel Pujol, who are both in the running for The Deli Magazine's band of the month. Daniel has a commanding lead in the poll, and you have a chance to cast your vote right HERE . More on both of these great artists can be found here: Daniel Pujol (check out the massive tour coming soon!) and The Mattoid.

SEPT 2

This weeks Nashville Scene has a great review of the new Ham1 LP: "The Underground Stream, the new album by Athens quartet Ham1, is wrought with spontaneity and brims with effortless, nonchalant performances. It's a brief 28 minutes full of studio-orchestrated front-porch pop songs that smack of California harmony on a rainy day. Given the record's bevy of melodious songs and instantly likable plain-sailing presentation, the band's decision to release this—their third record—on local art-punk label Infinity Cat forges an alliance with Athens that Nashville should welcome with open arms of Steve Perry proportions." Read the rest of the article HERE. But first but the vinyl HERE.
Ham1 join ex-MEEMAW co-frontman Daniel Pujol and the mysterious Denney and the Jets in supporting a rare appearance by the ever-elusive Clem Snide Saturday, 5th at The 5 Spot in East Nashville. Go.

We just heard that over the weekend NPR show re-broadcast their show "Post Modernism- Are We There Yet" which included a segment described here: Singer/songwriter Bob Something talks to TO THE BEST OF OUR KNOWLEDGE producer Doug Gordon about his fictional indie rock band, Monkey Bowl. We also hear excerpts from several songs off Monkey Bowl's new album, "Ultimate," including "Al Gore (The Musical)." We wondered why the sudden spike in orders! Radio Flyer raves about JEFF The Brotherhood's recent Death By Audio show in Brooklyn: "the songwriting was superb and the performance thrilling. JtB sound most like some lost classic from greatest moments of the 1980's American indie scene, but like a sonic chameleon, the band wouldn't sound out of place much of anywhere. It would just sound damn good." Read the whole review HERE

More love for JEFF The Brotherhood from Brooklyn Vegan: "JEFF the Brotherhood are back in town! If you missed them the last two times they were in town, well, you've got three more chances this week: tonight (7/15) at Death by Audio, Thursday (7/16) at Cake Shop and a secret show on Friday (7/17) that will be announced day of show via their Twitter. Seriously, Jake and Jamin put on one of the rockin-est, most fun shows I've seen this year. The boys are putting the final touches on their new album, Heavy Days, which comes out October 6 via their own Infinity Cat label. They've also got a new 7" single, "Heavy Damage," that they should still have copies of at shows, but you can download the a-side at the top of this post. They'll also be touring with the legendary Shonen Knife this fall."

JULY 12

We love Lil Hammy! How 'bout these upcoming shows: July 28th Reid & Wright, Denney & The Jets, Pujol & Some Beaus, and GA'AN. GA'AN features Lindsay Powell of Festival, Cake Bake Betty and Skyblazer, so you know you have to be there. July 30th Reid & Wright, Natural Child, Burger Kingdom, and MARJ! Did we mention that Natural Child is our NFB? Yeah we did, On July 5. Both shows at Little Hamilton. If you live in Nashville, TN, you know where it is.

Speaking of Skyblazer:

Skyblazer from Digital Bohemia on Vimeo.

JULY 10

Click HERE for a slideshow from last nights Jay Reatard, TV Smith and JEFF The Brotherhood show last night.

By the way, Time Out New York said this week "Depending on the song, Nashville’s Jeff the Brotherhood can recall either a metallic stoner-rock outfit or a melodic power-pop band. The group sounds confident and convincing in either guise." Yeah huh.

JULY 5

Asheville! Philly! Brooklyn! Detroit! Montreal! Ottowa! Chicago! Toronto! Indy! St. Louis! Milwaukee! Manhatten! and yes, even Orleans, Massachusetts! That's where JEFF The Brotherhood will be in the next few weeks. Check HERE for exact dates and locations and don't miss them.

It's Thursday night people, and we're all going to The End. To rock. It's The Nashville Scene's "Critic's Pick" : "Products of the New Jersey basement- and house-show scene, Screaming Females’ affiliation with local label Infinity Cat isn’t surprising. The touring trio made a splash in our own circuit with an interpretation of the same art-school punk that distinguishes the Nashville imprint. Sharing that aesthetic (and a split 7-inch) with Infinity Cat’s flagship JEFF the Brotherhood, Screaming Females distinguish themselves through frontwoman Marissa Paternoster’s dynamic stage presence. Drummer Jarrett Dougherty and bassist Mike Rickenbacker provide the bedrock that allows Paternoster’s caterwauling and jaw-dropping guitacrobatics to steal the show. The Brotherhood share the bill—and while our affinity for the duo’s riff-focused, psych-heavy freakouts might go without saying at this point, looks like I just mentioned it again." And if those two bands weren't enough, there is one more larger than life reason to go: Heavy Cream

JEFF the Brotherhood: Two Split Sevens By Steve Haruch in Cream Calendar
Nashville band of brothers JEFF the Brotherhood has two new 7-inch singles coming out on their familial imprint Infinity Cat. There's the alluringly feline-sleeved "Mind Ride," (pictured here) and a joint effort with New York's Screaming Females forthcoming. And wouldn't you know it, they're playing a show! The record releasing and the rocking and all that will happen this Saturday, Apr. 11, at The End. "Special guests" The Tits and Weiners will also jam on it. Five bucks will get you in, so long as you're 18 years of age or look a lot like your cousin Sven.

Heavy Cream was singing it hard late last night at The Playroom, Infinity Cat's studio, where they completed tracks for their debut 7" coming soon. The 45 rpm EP wil feature five tracks: Tina, Stiff Lick, Lava Lamp, Boner Shadder, and Meow Meow. You're gonna like it.
In other news, look for the brand new Infinity Cat Store within the next week. Lower prices, cheaper shipping, and free goodies with every purchase!

MARCH 23

More high praise from the UK! This time from Terrascope online, who have this to say about the new HAM1 record:
"Ham 1 lighten up my soul, with the sweet sound of “The Underground Stream” warming everything it touches with its light psych sound. This is sunny music without pretension, delightful and unadulterated, your feet will tap, and you will find yourself singing the chorus, or maybe just swaying gently around the room. Even on the more overtly psychedelic tunes such as “Toothless Frontlines”, the sense of melody and lightness of touch are not discarded, buy it now and be prepared for summer."

Renowned British newspaper The Guardian UK talks about the Nashville music scene this week: "While honky-tonk bars remain popular down on Broadway, and Music Row continues to shelter an industry largely focused on country and Christian acts, elsewhere a vibrant alternative scene is emerging. To catch emerging talent, keep an eye out for MySpace bulletins and leaflets in local record stores. These leak information about the city's booming house party scene, centred around local label Infinity Cat's leading acts JEFF The Brotherhood and MeeMaw, with the latter regularly hosting chaotic shows in the basement of their home. London has the Rough Trade Shop, New York has Other Music, but Nashville presents stiff competition with one of the world's best independent record shops, Grimey's (1604 8th Avenue South, grimeys.com).

Some great shows this past weekend. Hope you got to a chance to see the amazing HAM1 at Lil Hammy on Friday. Here's what the Nashville Scene said about 'em: "The Underground Stream, the new album by Athens band Ham1, brims with effortless nonchalant performances, wrought with spontaneity and full of studio-orchestrated front-porch pop songs smacking of California harmony on a rainy day. Ham1 has more in common with their local Elephant 6 faction than with our hard-working misfits of the DIY ethos Infinity Cat. That, however, hasn't stopped the Nashville label from putting out the band's new LP. Given the record's bevy of melodious songs and instantly likeable plain-sailing presentation, it's an alliance that we in Nashville should welcome with open arms of Steve Perry proportions. Opener "Will You Ever" sounds like Pavement's "Range life" coupled with a haunted Southern gothic flair. "Thalyacine" brings to mind the jangly post-punk roots of their city's favorite sons R.E.M., while the brisk country slow-dance of "This is Your Life," like the record's wistful calm, is a sonic reminder of life's small pleasures--Ham1 being one of them--making this a thoroughly enjoyable listen for a pop hedonist such as myself. Just as JEFF's Castle Storm is a thoroughly enjoyable listen for a basement punkophile such as, well...myself." Click HERE to buy the vinyl!

Next up for the Bro-Hood is a Nashville go- if- u-know crystal swan / king khan afterparty. Yeah that's right. Message Jake or Jamin HERE to find out the details.

DEC 24

Happy Holidays everyone, and thanks for making this year our best ever! What made it so great? You! and new releases from The Mattoid, MEEMAW, JEFF The Brotherhood, Cake Bake Betty, Reid and Wright, and Monkey Bowl. Great performances from all those artists as well as Skyblazer and Wizardz/Saigon Baby. Free cheese sandwiches at Next Big Nashville. And of course, the Bad Bus Tour! Thanks to all for coming to the shows, buying the music, and supporting Infinity Cat Recordings.

If you live in or near Nashville, we hope you'll make it to our last event of the year: The Infinity Cat New Years Midnight Rager featuring JEFF The Brotherhood, MEEMAW, Turbofruits, and Bad Friend. And we can't wait to show you what we have in store for 2009. Happy New Year!

DEC 22

JEFF The Brotherhood rocked the Mercy Lounge Friday night on a great bill with Ghostfinger. The Nashville Scene has a slideshow of the event HERE

And a review: This past weekend concluded the "Winter of Dreamz" series of shows at the Mercy Lounge, and the Nashville Cream was asked to host the festivities on Friday night. As curators, we asked the Cream-approved tandems of JEFF the Brotherhood and Ghostfinger to play on account of their proven consistency and general awesomeness..
For a band seemingly popular with the crust-punk contingent, JEFF certainly doesn't sound the part, and they've been straying even further from that sound with each passing show. Their concise, riff-centered post-punk is gradually giving way to open spaces and more overt psych-rock influences. The old songs are extended with whammy pedal freakouts, while the newer stuff is much more melodic. That isn't to say that they don't still riff-out some fist pumps, as evidenced by the audience pumping their fists during the riffs.

DEC 17

NASHVILLE SCENE: A Christmas Gift Especially for You: You can't accuse the Scene's music blog of having an Orrall fixation. Well, actually, you can and you do. So it's with a heartfelt mixture of humility and holiday cheer that Cream says "blow me" and books JEFF The Brotherhood anyway, featuring Jake and Jamin Orrall—dudes who'd paid their shitty-club-gig dues long before they escaped high school, started hanging out with Bjork, made headlines with BYOP, etc. If somehow your ass remains unkicked after that, rest assured Ghostfinger will swat your hiney with a paddle the size of Oregon, and any booty left unbeaten will be broadsided by the comedy stylings of Chris Crofton. Also on the bill: this act getting a lot of bookings around town, TBA. We hear they were a lot better before they got popular. Mercy Lounge Fri., Dec. 19, 9 p.m., 2008 (By Jim Ridley)

NOV 20

There's lot's to see and hear in Nashville TN this weekend. JEFF The Brotherhood at Little Hamilton on Friday with Weiners (mimi and wes) Jerusalem and the Starbaskets Heater. All ages, 8pm. There are two touring bands so bring 3-5 dollars to 1318 Little Hamilton. On Saturday night JEFF The Brotherhood will be at the (Rabbit) party 1315 Adams, 37208. $7 and a cash bar, no byob. 7pm-2am

If that wasn't enough, MEEMAW plays with Turbofruits, Awesome Shirt, First Attack, Yeti, at 109 Woodcraft Drive, Murfeesboro on Friday and at the Dewey Decibel House on Saturday.

NOV 14

Today we are announcing a new SPLIT CASSETTE between MEEMAW's Daniel Pujol and Nathan Vasquez of DELUXIN', one side each! You might be familiar with DELUXIN's record called "BLACK/WHITE" that was recorded 3 times and released on 3 formats by 3 different labels a few years back. If you are, then know its majesty and will doubtlessly be excited for a new Nathan Vasquez (this time as DEMATIC) release! And if you are one of the many who own the 7"/cd combo called "GLASS ELEVATOR" then you are most definitely going to be excited about this new mole on your porch from the guitarist, vocalist, and frontman of the already vaguely familiar MEEMAW. How could we put two such amazing things back to back on the same tape? It's what we do. By the way, Daniel is looking for people to play these new songs with, so if you're interested message him HERE.
