Here's a review from when it was released: "Hold onto your hats musical opinionists. Like a hurricane blowing past all hurdles to teenage expression Be Your Own PET emerge from a rock 'n' roll fragment of Nashville weaving a fire trail of concise riffs and knowingly stylish havoc. Swiftly gaining acclaim and derision from all quarters, they tore up the John Peel Stage at Glastonbury with a seething set of posture and attitude that was enough to lure a dying man into the horde at the front. While an obvious reference point, Courtney Love, could never quite you feel get past an inkling of drama school pretension, BYOP's Jemina Pearl oozes a direct, "innocent" charm of pure vivacity that could speak to the whole divide of modern music fans, then divide them into further segments. 'Fire Department', all squeals and cartoonish vitriol, makes a hell of a jagged noise led into the spectacular by the mellifluous wail of the jewel Jemina. Evoking memories of post-punk pioneers Life Without Buildings, it's an anarchically melodic whirl of post-rock guitar and stream-of-consciousness lyrical bile that less than politely advises us to take notice. The B-sides writhe at a similar temperature. 'Take That Walk' is a thrilling, ebbing and brooding musical piece, the guitars rising out of a repetitive drum intro in fits of grace, and Jemina showing the real soulful, song-side of her voice belting out a lustful tune fit for a rock 'n' roll Patsy Cline. 'Hillmont Avenue' is over in a brilliant spasmodic fit, and thus the band let us dream of an industry-coveted impending debut album - a lot more will be said."

The New York Times gushed: This gawky, squawky young Nashville punk band just released a messy but exhilarating two-song single. During a two-minute tantrum called "Damn Damn Leash," the guitarist Jonas Stein bashes out some compressed chords, while the singer Jemima Abegg spits and shivers out the lyrics through clenched teeth, delivering one of the year's most entertaining kiss-offs: "You've got me on a leash/ A damn damn leash/ And it's hard enough to be my damn self." The A-side contains six songs, and the B-side contains the same six, but in reverse. Recorded by Roger Moutenot (Yo La Tengo, Lou Reed), and produced by Angelo (Kings Of Leon, Warren Zanes) and Robert Ellis Orrall (Cake Bake Betty, Taylor Swift). The songs were mixed by Orrall and Jacquire King (Norah Jones, Modest Mouse).

be your own PET S/T debut CD UK version

The debut CD from be your own PET, dise project of Jake and Jamin (JEFF The Brotherhood), Jonas Stein (Turbofruits) and Jemina Pearl.

"Delivering terse and rambunctious sub-three minute blasts of punk energy and musical creativity beyond their teenage years, Be Your Own Pet have arrived with their eponymous debut album. Heralded as the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs, this is a fuzzy, hook-laden noise pop record that will have you grinning from ear to ear with every listen, with vocals from indie pin-up Jemina at times in flames, and at others achingly sweet. Album highlights include the screwball riffs of 'Wildcat!', the new wave rock of single 'Adventure', blink and you'll miss it perfection of 'Let's Get Sandy (Big Problem)' and the unashamed gallivant of 'Love Your Shotgun'. Be Your Own Pet is a street party of artful punk and beauty and an incredibly strong debut album to herald a revolution."

Additional DescriptionMore Details
"There's the authentic salty whiff of classic garage-band punk spirit about Be Your Own PET, a quartet of Nashville teens whose debut album burns up 15 tracks in a little over half an hour. With hardly a pause, and barely any change in tempo, they manage to sum up the energy and frustrations of teenage life with a slim portfolio of razor-sharp guitar slashes and brutal beats. Vocalist Jemima Pearl doesn't so much sing as blurt out the lyrics, which perch on the cusp of decipherability just long enough to leave the occasional astringent phrase rattling round your head: "Oh I love you like the studs from my cowhide settee"; "We will vacation, you can be my parasol". "I've never had this much fun/ I've never had my own gun," she wails delightedly in the opening "Thresher's Flail" , and you don't doubt her for a moment: there's a berserk, hysterical edge to tracks like "Wildcat!", "Bunk Trunk Skunk" and " Fuuuuuun" that recalls the Riot Grrrl heyday of Bikini Kill and Babes in Toyland, but without any of the ideological baggage that dragged them down. Just the pure, unadulterated euphoria of building your own world of fun."
